Principles of Position Management (1/2 day)
What is position management? Why do HR and Management both have roles in this, and what are those roles? Learn the basics of classification and position management – one of the most overlooked and least understood management responsibilities. This is an applied workshop with exercises designed to engage every participant. Complete the course with an understanding of the GS hierarchy, influences on grade level and pay band determinations, and smart ways to design offices, divisions and agencies.
Classification (is not) for Everyone (1 day) [prerequisite: Principles of Position Management]
This is your chance to understand federal position classification from a non-HR perspective. Whether as an administrative officer, a hiring manager, a new executive to the federal sector or as someone who wants to have a better context for how the government can more efficiently manage millions of positions, you will benefit from this short and informative class. Start by understanding the concepts underlying the correct management of positions in the government, and then learn the bricks and mortar of a job description and its cover sheet. Discuss the separate and necessary roles for an HR specialist and a manager in classifying positions.
Classification Practicum (3 days) [prerequisite: Classification (is not) for Everyone]
For current and future position classification specialists only. Understand the fundamentals and advanced concepts involved in classifying positions, from FLSA determinations to applying OPM precedents in each determination. By the end of the course, each student will be able to classify GS positions, answer a wide range of questions about classification, and justify controversial classification decisions for a federal employer. Comes bundled with up to three hours of free consultation in the year following completion of the class.
Superior Federal HiringTM (HR) (3 days)
Superior Federal HiringTM (Hiring Managers) (1/2 day)
This is the only workshop that guides students through applied ways to correctly hire for the Federal government using Monster’s Hiring Management software. Beyond the buttons, and beyond the bureaucracy – turn hiring requirements into a real candidate to fill an actual vacancy! This course is an intensive, applied, and real-world-driven experience. Three-day class participants develop a crediting plan for one of their own job vacancies, so that the day after the course they are able to post the job online. Instead of setting work aside in order to take this class, participants actually complete their real staffing work in a structured environment.
